Varley Red Top Supporting Classic Formula Ford
In late 2018 Ellery Motorsport Pty Ltd re-launched the iconic Varley Red Top brand in Australia, supplying the high quality, lightweight racing batteries to the Aussie Motorsport market.
Varley Red Top liveries have adorned a range of Formula Fords over the last few months, racing across the country, from Bathurst to Phillip Island.
After chatting with the friendly guys within the Classic Formula Ford group, Varley Red Top Australia agreed to offer up a prize for the best-presented car at the Historic Winton event, held around the "original" shortened version of the Winton Motor Raceway.
During the event, Ellery Motorsport's Luke Ellery and Alice Piccolo wondered around the grid to check out the cars competing, and provided a VRT25 battery to what they agreed was the best-presented car in the field.
Cole and Phil Spender's Spender Lynx and Paul Faulkner's Crossle made the shortlist for the prize, but it was the one-of-a-kind Spender Lynx that won the VRT25 racing battery.
This car has a particularly special history, having been built by Phil Spender in 1971 in New Zealand. The car then exchanged hands various times but stayed within the Auckland racing community. After sitting in a shed for a decade, the car underwent a major restoration and was then re-purchased by Cole and Phil Spender.
The Spender Lynx is currently raced by Cole in the Historic Formula Ford field and by Phil in selected Regularity events around Victoria.
The new VRT25 battery was received with great appreciation by the Spender family, also due to the fact that their old battery was a bit of an unknown and had started to give signs of failure!
"Many thanks to Ellery Motorsport and Varley Red Top this capped off a terrific weekend with the Classic Formula Ford Australia crew!" commented Cole Spender.
He then continued "Dad and I were very humbled for you to pick our car amongst a bunch of beautifully turned out Fa and Fb cars!"
